While I’m waiting for a Lightroom export, I figured I’d try to fix my comments on the old blog. I think I’ve been successful, but would appreciate your help. Feel free to leave me a comment and I’ll see if it comes through for moderation.

Slight Blog Change

Posted on June 9, 2008

You probably didn’t notice, but I wanted to let you know just in case you did that I have changed the layout of the blog a little.  I made it a 1-column layout to have more room for my landscape/horizontal oriented images.  The vertical photos are all large and in charge, while the horizontals have been fairly small in comparison.  Now they’ll be bigger and a better match to their vertical counterparts.

Looking for the archives and the search function?  Check the bottom of the page.  I have limited the number of posts per page to 5 to help keep you from scrolling forever as well.

So there you have it…nothing major, but a nice little tweak I think.

Whoa…Imported

Posted on May 4, 2008

I have been trying to figure out how to get my Blogger blog archives over here to my new Wordpress blog without having to re-do each post one by one. My Blogger blog was self-hosted, so the magic import tool from Wordpress supposedly wouldn’t work. After online research and reading I had pretty much given in to the idea that I would have to do it one by one. Maybe copy and paste into a new post one archived month per week or something.

Well, I got to thinking and came up with a far simpler solution than what I could find on the many posts in Google’s top picks. I simply logged into my Blogger account and switched from ftp self-hosting to blogger hosting. Then I logged into my Wordpress account and clicked “import”. In less than 5 minutes all o my Blogger posts and comments were transferred to my Wordpress blog. Easy peasy. So now, all of my old posts from my blog’s tiny start back in May of 2003 are here and viewable from the archives menu.

Warning - this used to be a personal blog only, so there may be some bad four letter words here and there. ;)

I shot another wedding yesterday with Leigh. I’ll be posting some previews from that sometime tonight or tomorrow evening.

Just In Case You Didn’t Know

Posted on April 11, 2008

I’ll make an effort not to use too many “Just In…” references in this post. However, the point of this post is to call out a big thank you to my friend Justin Shearer. Justin designed this new website for me in response to a barter offer I posted back in January or February. Not sure which month…

Justin and I go way back. In high school I was a major band-o at Goose Creek High School. Our marching band had the name “The Spirit of Gold“. Justin went to Walterboro High School which according to Google Maps is about 45 miles away. The Walterboro Band of Blue or Big Blue or whatever it’s called was our biggest marching rival. It’s a good thing I didn’t care too much about marching band because Walterboro was always beating us at lower state. Anyway, Justin and I both played trombone in our respective bands. Justin and I were both band president. Justin and I played each other in varsity tennis matches. Justin and I competed at All Region band competitions. Justin and I ended up at USC together in the same band and in the same acoustical physics class. He ended up being roommates with the members of my old geek rock band. Then he became my boss when I went to work as a designer for his company at the time, Justinsane Design.

Justin the entrepreneur is a force. He’s really come a long way since the start of Justinsane Design. Now he’s the creative director at one hell of a good company while also maintaining his own design business, Justin Shearer Creative. He takes a very simple approach to his work, which is very important in the web driven world. His websites make as much sense when broken down to white space as they do full of Justin’s famously slick, but not over-the-top graphic styling. Need a CSS based website? He’s the guy to see. Need an honest review of what you have in mind? He’s the guy to see.

His payment system is great. The [BLOCK] system should be adopted by everyone in this very subjective and often fickle line of work. As soon as I have an extra $500 laying around, I’ll pass it on to him to add that “contact” menu item up top and eagerly await my change since a simple fix like that shouldn’t cost more than what like a nickel or something right? I mean I could have my friend’s kid do it for free. I think he knows computers. ;)

So blah blah blah Jebb…what are you trying to say?

I’m trying to say this. If you need a solid website sans an over-inflated price. Get in touch with Justin Shearer at Justin Shearer Creative. He’s got more skills than Napoleon Dynamite and Pedro combined.

Re-Post & News for IE Readers

Posted on March 29, 2008

Re-post! So you have probably already seen the photos below. That’s because this is a repost of those. I’m still working on a few things for the new blog here so bear with me as it’s a little different from the setup I’ve had for the past three or four years.

NOTICE Internet Explorer Users:
The navigation at the top is not as broken as it may seem. There is an issue with some code overlap that should be fixed sometime on Monday. My buddy that put this whole new design together isn’t able to get to it until then. This may be the kick in the pants you needed to switch to Firefox! :)
Anyway, in order to use the navigation, instead of mousing over the textual menu items, move your mouse up directly over them almost to the top of the website before you get to the gray areas of your browser window. The little lights will twinkle and you’ll be set until it’s all fixed come Monday.

For Christmas last year my siblings and I gave my mom a trip to Lexington, Virginia with all her kids. We haven’t all been there at the same time since 1997 which was sadly for my granny’s funeral. Before that, I’m not sure how long it had been. When we were little kids, we’d go up at least once a year if not more to visit my granny. Below are a handful of my favorites from the trip…

A few shops in town.

My nephew Garrett is identical to my brother at this age. I need to post some scans.

The door to “Stonewall” Jackson’s house. This is the house that my mom was born in. I think that’s pretty cool.

This is the steeple to the Presbyterian church. It’s my mom’s church that she went to growing up. Sadly, it burned a couple of years ago and has since been rebuilt. It’s really quite pretty.

“Stonewall” Jackson’s grave. My grandmother & grandfather are buried in this beautiful cemetery. It so peaceful and interesting to see so many very old graves. Many Civil War veterans are buried here as well.

This is a miniaturized view of the pancake joint where we had breakfast. It was right across from the hotel. Nothing special, but it’s fun to make things into models sometimes.

My sister-in-law, fiancee & sister all climbed to the top of the half pipe to hang out while I snapped up a million shots of my nephews skating.

Gaige (nephew) dropping in on the monster half pipe. I think it was about 8-10 feet from the ground to the coping. He’s pretty awesome.

Best Jessica Ever

And the of course there is a group shot of the whole fam-damnly. here we are at Goshen thanks to the trusty tripod.

I’ll have more messages for you tomorrow to be sure.
