However, I was happy to be selling it to a sailor here at Goose Creek’s “Nuke” School.

So this’ll be the last post bugging everyone about getting the word out about my car. Comet will be greatly missed. Thanks for the good times and small appetite car-buddy.

This should also the last time I’ll be posting any from this set.

Quickie! http://www.jebbgraff.com/2009/12/31/quickie/ http://www.jebbgraff.com/2009/12/31/quickie/#comments Thu, 31 Dec 2009 14:28:15 +0000 Jebb http://www.jebbgraff.com/?p=1124 Charleston PhotographerThis will be a short post to make an announcement. I’ll be somewhat disappearing from what the kids call the social media for a little while. It’s not a resolution and it doesn’t have a time limit or expiration date. Who knows? I could be back tomorrow.

That being said. The social media that I’m referring to is mainly the big dogs. Facebook & Twitter…probably Gowalla too. Gowalla isn’t really a big dog though I don’t think. I digress…

I’ll still be posting to this blog. I’ll still answer emails. I will definitely return calls and usually answer them. I will also make every effort to meet you in person if you’d like. I’m just a little burned out on all things social media. There isn’t much social about it to be honest. There is a whole lot of fun to be had with it, but right now I’ve got other things on my mind and letting the world know forever that my waiter just said “like” 5 times in one sentence isn’t one of them.

So…if you want or need to get in touch with me, Facebook or Twitter aren’t the places. Check my contact page and drop me a line.

One more thing. My business Facebook “Fan Page” automatically pulls blog posts in, so please don’t leave me comments about how I lied and I’m using Facebook. It was the internet, not me. ;)

The Beatholes http://www.jebbgraff.com/2009/12/28/the-beatholes/ http://www.jebbgraff.com/2009/12/28/the-beatholes/#comments Mon, 28 Dec 2009 20:40:05 +0000 Jebb http://www.jebbgraff.com/?p=1112 I hope everyone had a wonderful Christmas. I know I did. However, this post isn’t about that.

The day after Christmas this year, one of my favorite bands of all time got back together for a show. A three set rock, then acoustic, then rock show. It was “An Evening with The Beatholes”. The Beatholes are out of Myrtle Beach, SC. I met them a long time ago when I was in the band Love Apple. We started playing shows together, and as bands often do we and them eventually split and changed members etc. I’ve played in bands with some of their members and always have a blast when I get the chance to hang out with these dudes. They’re good people and phenomenal musicians. My brother-in-law, Patrick, and I climbed into the Mazda the other night and headed on to Myrtle Beach to see this show, and as usual I had my camera in tow. Below are some favorites and a slideshow featuring music by none other than The Beatholes themselves.

All of the photos from the night can be found by clicking through to the “events” section under the “clients>proofs” menu above btw…

I hope everyone has had a very Merry Christmas. Mine has been very chill and relaxed. This isn’t a big wordy post. I just wanted to post a few personal photos I’ve taken between Thanksgiving and now. I’ll be posting a little more about some other stuff in the coming days, but for now, here are some new photos to look at.

I know captions on this blog need some placement and spacing help, but in the meantime, just so you know. Captions are below each pic, not above them. ;)

Stuff For Sale http://www.jebbgraff.com/2009/12/24/stuff-for-sale/ http://www.jebbgraff.com/2009/12/24/stuff-for-sale/#comments Thu, 24 Dec 2009 20:44:01 +0000 Jebb http://www.jebbgraff.com/?p=1106 So…I’ve got a few things for sale. The car is still for sale, and I dropped the price again today. We’re now down to $7,500. Check the details here. I’ve also got a Nikon D300 body and a Nikon 17-55mm f2.8 lens for sale. They’re all up on Craigslist too. Please let me know if you’re interested, and please pass this info along to anyone you think may be interested. I’d love to sell everything as quickly as possible. Lots to do in 2010, and ready to get this stuff gone!

D300 Body

SOLD!

I’ve always taken good care of it and it stays in a bag with the body cap on unless I’m shooting with it at a wedding, or in the studio. It’s in great shape and a great performer, but I no longer need it. Everything works perfectly and there are no major scratches or anything like that, but there are a few signs of use, like dust and general smudgey looking wear on the grip material outside. The sensor is currently dust free.

• All original items including a battery come with it in the original box.

Simple Gifts http://www.jebbgraff.com/2009/12/22/simple-gifts/ http://www.jebbgraff.com/2009/12/22/simple-gifts/#comments Tue, 22 Dec 2009 15:34:12 +0000 Jebb http://www.jebbgraff.com/?p=1093 Charleston PhotographerUnless you live under a rock, then you’ve probably figured out that it’s Christmas time. Er…at least The Holidays, Festivus, Christmahanakwanzakah, whichever you prefer. Hence the layout change. I like to set the mood a little when I have the chance. Don’t worry though…if you hate the current look of the website here, it’ll go back to normal soon enough.

Also…I was asked by a certain someone (cough Stacey cough) to bring back the feedback coffee cup photos for blog posts. So there you have one. It’s a deer. Jessica always gives me this one and says very cheesily, “because you’re my deer dear”. Okay, she’s only said that once, and I may even be imagining that, but it’s a warm-fuzzy thought at least. Shoot a guy for dreaming…

About that photo. Here’s a tip, if you have a gray card in your final photo, drop some sweet bokeh on it, and people will think it’s a strategically composed graphical element offering leading line perspective; gently guiding the viewer’s eye to your super awesome deer mug full of tasty coffee. Or brown juice as my Grandmaw-in-law recently referred to it. I’m gonna stick with calling it coffee though.

Please get on with some kind of post that has something to do with the title please Mr. Graff. You got it…read on.

For various reasons this year I am broke. Like seriously broke. Jessica and I LOVE Christmas time the most and usually pile each other up with gifts as well as get into the rush. Which I personally actually really like to do. Anyway…the point is that we’re broke and aren’t exchanging with anyone…not even each other. So yesterday I decided to give Jessica a simple, already payed for gift. We both love lots of lights and decorations, so I dug through the heap in the garage and used the leftover lights that aren’t on the outside of the house to make a little overhead Christmas light display going up our stairway. I also put together three paper lanterns leftover from our wedding reception last year along with some not-so-delicately hot-glued construction paper to make a light-up snowman. After that project was complete, I set up a fake tree we had in storage in our bedroom. Nothing spectacular, but it’s just the kind of thing that we like to see this time of year.

I’m trying to decide if I’ll be doing one of those year in review things. If I do, you’ll be the first to know.

Merry Christmas.

Christmas – Yup It’s Time http://www.jebbgraff.com/2009/12/21/christmas-yup-its-time/ http://www.jebbgraff.com/2009/12/21/christmas-yup-its-time/#comments Mon, 21 Dec 2009 14:43:11 +0000 Jebb http://www.jebbgraff.com/?p=1089 I’ve been sitting here for the last hour or so replying to emails, working on a photo or two and tweaking my logo up there in the left corner to make it all Christmas-y. Then I do some upgrades on the back-end of my website and see a tweet pop up from Jason Sposa with a link to an awesome video by Brett Domino. I’d never heard of him, but the video Jason linked to was awesome. So then I go digging around on brettdomino.com and find the video below. Heck yes! I’m feeling all good and ready for some Christmas! Check this video. Sweet.

Always A Photog Never A Guest – Except For… http://www.jebbgraff.com/2009/12/16/always-a-photog-never-a-guest-except-for/ http://www.jebbgraff.com/2009/12/16/always-a-photog-never-a-guest-except-for/#comments Thu, 17 Dec 2009 01:04:04 +0000 Jebb http://www.jebbgraff.com/?p=1085 Charleston PhotographerLast weekend I had the pleasure of being a groomsman for one of my best friends in the whole wide world, Mr. George Cooper. The wedding was so much fun. I’m not used to being a guest at weddings. I’ve definitely been behind the lens at more weddings in my life than in front of it. Well, I have finally gotten in front of it and proven a few things. On December 12th, 2009 I was a crazy person that didn’t know how to dance, but took a chance for bromance. George and Lauren’s wedding photographers just posted some photos up on their blog from the wedding, showcasing their wonderful talents, George & Lauren’s beautiful wedding and my ability to act like a moron when the bass starts thumping!

Go to the All Dressed Up Photography blog to see what I’m talking about.

Yes, I look like an idiot, but I had some of the most fun I’ve had in my entire life at their wedding and not a single regret about “movin’ my hips like yeah”. I only hope they throw a big party like that when George finishes pharmacy school. Hint hint…

Burned Coffee – What I Do http://www.jebbgraff.com/2009/11/24/burned-coffee-what-i-do/ http://www.jebbgraff.com/2009/11/24/burned-coffee-what-i-do/#comments Tue, 24 Nov 2009 14:20:05 +0000 Jebb http://www.jebbgraff.com/?p=1079 Don’t worry, the title does say burned coffee, but this isn’t a post about Starbucks.

This is just a quick tip from a guy with a cheap coffee pot.

Charleston PhotographerI don’t have some fancy geo-thermal coffee pot that keeps coffee at a perfect temperature for weeks and gives you a free beret and goatee with each brew. Nope. I’ve got an old white (questionable now) Mr. Coffee. Cold water in-hot water out. Hot plate. Don’t let it sit unless you want to patch your roof with your coffee kind of coffee pot.

This coffee pot is here mainly out of love. I got this thing when I left for college back in 1998. These kinds of pots usually stop working after three weekends of Monopoly nights, but this one has been a trooper. It has brewed coffee for me, my roommates, friends, bands, politicos, girlfriends turned fiancees and fiancees turned wives. Many times, I’ve almost bought a fancy one, but have decided against it out of principle. This pot still works.

Get on with the tip and stop waxing poetic about a stupid coffee pot. A cheap one at that right?

So here’s the deal. I drink my coffee black 90% of the time. I don’t even consider the flavored stuff coffee. Not in a snobby way though. I like it, it’s just dessert to me. Not coffee.

When I work from home, I make half a pot. I could drink a whole one, but I don’t need to get back in that habit. So I make half a pot and slowly drink down my first cup of tasty black coffee. Then I go take a shower. By the time I’m done, that coffee has been sitting there way too long. It’s burned. It’s thickened. It tastes like someone made aspirin tea. Yuck.

So what do I do? I make dessert. My second cup will be overloaded with sugar & creamer, and will sit in a travel mug for long enough to let the smoldering hot brew go through a few half-lives and get to a temperature that will leave at least one taste bud left for me to taste my chimichanga at lunch. The cool-down will also help keep the terrorists from knocking on my door trying to get the sludge to fuel their nukes with.

For most people this will not be a tip at all because I find that most people I know start right away with creamers that make their coffee taste like hot chocolate anyway. If this is you…you just wasted some time on the internet. I bet that’s not new to you either. I know it’s not to me. I just wrote this thing, and even took a photo of my beloved Mr. Coffee. It’s back to work for me, so you should probably do the same. If you’re not planning on it, then I recommend becoming a fan of mine at Facebook, or maybe even playing a couple games of Snood.

Stay wired.

Shot Some Hoops http://www.jebbgraff.com/2009/11/23/shot-some-hoops/ http://www.jebbgraff.com/2009/11/23/shot-some-hoops/#comments Mon, 23 Nov 2009 15:04:16 +0000 Jebb http://www.jebbgraff.com/?p=1071 Last week, my BFF George treated my wife and I to a basketball game at the Charleston Classic between the South Carolina Gamecocks and the La Salle Explorers. Gamecocks won it 78-68. I had a bonehead moment when we got there and realized I hadn’t taken my camera gear out of my car from earlier in the day. I didn’t want to leave all of my gear on a dark street downtown, so I went back and got it and brought it in. Attendance was low and seating was general admission, so I got to sit pretty close and get a few pics. I’m a bit envious of real sports shooters. It’s a really fun challenge, and they get to see some cool stuff up close and sometimes a little too close. I’ve only photographed a few sporting events. Let’s see…there was a track day at Roebling Road, a hockey tournament here in Charleston (I need to get a few of those posted…), and some youth baseball up in Fuquay-Varina.

Rambling as usual…here are some of the shots I got.
